Let’s Stop Comparing and Competing Ladies!

Hi everyone; this is Brittney Castro, Founder & CEO of Financially Wise Women.  Today I want to address something I find very interesting among women.  It’s the fact that more often than not us women LOVE to compete and compare ourselves to one another.

Now I know you ladies know what I’m talking about.  We women are really good at constantly comparing ourselves to each other and thinking things like:

    • What does she have over me?

    • I better do it first otherwise she will get ahead of me.

    • I hate her because she looks so good after losing all that weight!

    Sound familiar?

I remember when I started focusing my practice on the women’s segment 2 years ago, I thought I would get away from the competition that I found running rampant among the men in my industry.  I would go to every women’s networking event under the sun and what I discovered was shocking.  I noticed that women compete just as much as men, if not more, and we do it in such a secretive way!  Have you ever felt this competing among women I am referring to?

I remember one time, a woman attorney introduced herself to me and after I told her how I specialize in working with busy women professionals and entrepreneurs, she immediately interrupted and told me she was doing the same.  It felt as though she wanted to enter a match with me.  I felt very defensive and walked out of there utterly confused.  Why did I feel she wanted to compete with me when we were not even in the same industry!

I am not immune to the competitive mind but I do recognize that this type of competitive thinking and comparison mode does not serve me and it does not serve us women as a whole.

So my message today is let’s stop competing with one another.  Let’s decide together to work hard to NOT compete or compare ourselves to others and instead work on tapping into the inner greatness that is in each and every one of us.  We do not need to compare or compete, rather own our unique gifts and talents and then come together to help one another in business and in life.  The best thing we can do is decide to claim our truth and show up each and every day as ourselves and recognize there is enough for everyone and everyone deserves to have what they desire most.

Once one woman has this mindset it will help others have it too.  So let’s all agree to remember this key fact this year and come together and support each other rather than judge, compare and compete with one another.  I hope you can join me.
