Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems

Contrary to popular belief, more money is not always a good thing.

I once worked with a woman who, from the outside looking in, had it all: A successful husband, beautiful mansion, two beautiful kids, nanny, housekeeper, personal chef, etc. But when we started to work together, she was in the middle of a divorce, and the reality of her situation was nothing like it seemed on the outside.

Yes, she did lead a “rich” lifestyle, but her life was far from rich. Her husband controlled the money, and when she told him how unhappy she was in their marriage and that she wanted out, he dragged his feet in the divorce process and left her with very few options. She cried in my office over how unhappy she was, and how she felt stupid for not having access to their funds or any knowledge about where they truly were in their financial life. She was overwhelmed by all the house maintenance. She told me that all she really wanted was a nice place for her and her two kids to live and a reasonable income (less than $100,000 a year, which was far less than what her family had been existing on for years). She just wanted to simplify her life as much as possible.

You see, we live in a country that provides us with endless possibilities and opportunities, but defining exactly what you need to be happy is key to having authentic fulfillment and joy in life. Chasing more money is so common in our society that even I have to watch my own intentions as I set my goals year after year.

But as the saying goes, more money can sometimes mean more problems if you’re not prepared for all that comes with it. Of course, you can still desire more money, but you should also make sure you prepare and get systems in place to manage it and not let it control you. You’ll need to hire more help, whether it’s a CPA, financial planner, business manager or bookkeeper. Remember no one can do it alone–so get clear about what you want in your life, go after it to make it happen and then take the necessary steps to sustain it.

Financial planning is amazing because it allows you to figure out how much money you need to live your ideal life, and then how to manage your money effectively by setting up the proper systems in order to take a lot of the day-to-day stress out of it. Money really can be fun, and the more fun you have with it, the more you will enjoy it, no matter how much you have.

To help you get clear about exactly how much money you need in order to be happy, request your free Discovery Session with me today.

And remember: You are the one who gets to define your own happiness. Get clear about what you want in life, and see your money as a tool to get all you desire.

Sending you lots of money love!
