You Are Not a Victim

These can be hard words to hear. “You are not a victim.”

Stay with me for a moment.

With the right perception this phrase can be very empowering. If you are not a victim then that means you are not at the mercy of your current circumstances.

And the truth is you are not.

Your current situation is not your final destination.

You can start making different decisions at any point that you DECIDE. The key word being decide.

You are the only one in charge of your financial destiny. As a woman, I know we face facts* such as:

  • The average annual income for women is $52,521, compared with $84,006 for men.

  • Men are 1.4 times more likely than women to say they are on track to meet their financial goals.

  • 54% of women are now the primary breadwinners in their household.

I think it is our individual responsibility to NOT become a statistic and to educate ourselves, ask for help, and have a plan to become more and more financially independent.

I know I have been talking to you about this for years. How to negotiate, budget, save, plan, talk to your significant other about money, investing, retirement, and on and on.

More than anything I am writing you today to give you some fire.

Tell you that you are not alone.

Motivate you to take action, no matter how big or small to start that account, book that session with a Financial Planner, open all your bills and pay them, ask for the raise.

Why NOT you?

A few quick tips:

Set some strong money boundaries.

  • If you have a friend or family member constantly asking you for money and you don’t feel comfortable - SAY NO.

  • If you have family members or parents prying into your financial life wondering what you are doing or not doing... you are an adult, you can politely let them know you have everything under control.

  • If you need to set some boundaries with yourself, respect yourself and set a budget and stick to it. Come at it from the framework of self respect.

Don’t settle.

  • You don't have to settle in your current salary, if you want more money - GO GET IT.

  • If you don’t think the service providers that you are working with are doing a good job - don’t settle. Fire fast and hire people that are in alignment with what you REALLY WANT.

Walk away.

  • This isn’t always easy but sometimes necessary.

  • Pursue another job opportunity so that you can walk away from the job that isn’t giving you the level of income and possibility that you are after.

  • Walk away from clients that are not respecting your time or what you provide for them.

  • Walk away from financial professionals that aren’t helping you meet your goals.

This is your life, you get to create it however you see fit.

If you are pumped to take that next leap. Leave a comment below on the next action you are going to take and head on over to financiallwiseinc.com to schedule a discovery call and let’s get you closer to your financial goals.

I look forward to chatting!

Love,

Brittney
